A New Way to Look at Things

Many people find that math and God are difficult subjects to relate and intertwine. Many people struggle with the thought that God can exist forever. But on the other hand, it is widely accepted in the mathematics world that the value of infinity is a sound solution to a problem. If infinity can exist when it comes to numbers, why can infinity not exist when it comes to God?

Pondering

Studies have shown that those with higher levels of intelligence are less likely to practice some form of religion (the general information on this can be viewed here on Wikipedia...  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religiosity_and_intelligence ) The information does state that those with higher intelligence levels tend to be more skeptical of ideas presented and do not merely accept things as often without large amounts of evidence. I have another spin on the reasoning to why those more intelligent may not believe in a higher being. What if the reason is merely that there is an underlying natural resistance to admitting that there is something more intelligent and ultimately superior to something other than ourselves? Do extremely intelligent people just not want to believe that there is something smarter than themselves? Is it just a matter of humans being too proud in themselves and unwilling to accept inferiority? Are the intelligent really more intelligent even on this matter, or just merely more conceded in their abilities? Just a different way of looking at things.

Irony

So.... a personal realization has occurred this past weekend due to experimental learning and review of events. 1. When one enters college, book knowledge increases. (If you go to any class at any time or read any type of book in college, your knowledge has increased... duh) 2. Common sense SIGNIFICANTLY decreases upon arrival and steadily over time (kind of like an exponent curve for a number between 0 and 1).

Here is how and why the realization took place. My friends and I had found a CD on the street that was produced by an artist named The Real Big Dre. It was severely damaged yet still managed to play flawlessly on our computers. Anyways, The Real Big Dre rapped about various activities such as recreational marijuana smoking, inhalation of cocaine, violation of women, dealing of illegal narcotics, etc. We decided, this is an unhealthy form of brainwashing and we should immediately destroy the CD as soon as possible (this is a false excuse used to verify the idiocy we were involved in). One suite mate of mine came up with the genius idea of putting it in the microwave because it makes "cool sparks" and "looks like lightning". Of course we all thought that was awesome and after the mentioning of the fact that Mythbusters did it, we dove right in!

Poor choice. After watching the CD put on its magical display, we soon realized the smell of burning plastic coming from the microwave. Oh my, that's not good (especially since we are in a small enclosed space). This is where our college intuition comes in.... The sequential bombarding of radiation on the CD, while awesome, heats the surrounding plastic on the disc. !Eureka! Burning of plastic can create toxic gases that cause potential short-term and long-term hazards from direct inhalation! !Eureka! We should probably push the air out of the room with a series of fans and air purifiers. And this is what we did. The irony of the event was that 'The Real Big Dre' was really smoking.

P.S. We have also destroyed our microwave because such gas particles cling to the surfaces of the interior of the microwave and sequentially will be introduced to the food cooked in there from then on out. Another health hazard. At least we had fun :)

Stress Reducer

Often we find ourselves stressed over the amount of "things" going on in our life. It may not actually be as much as it seems. Here is a way to find out how much we actually have to do and also organize at the same time; just a tip... when you think of something that must be done or something that worries you, write it down on a piece of paper. Use the same paper for all of the things that pop into your mind. Now you will have a "to-do" list while also organizing your stress level by knowing the goals you must accomplish.

Facebook

I'm sure everyone has heard of the up and coming Facebook layout.... Dos Columns!!!!! Although many may be opposed to the new variation, let us look upon it in another way. It is a change. People don't usually like change. But instead of beating it down before you even see it, give it a chance. Some of the best things in life come from change! Appreciate the normalities of life and treasure the new and changing aspects of it. You never know, it could be the next best thing.

Life-long Thought

As I move through the first few weeks of college, I have come to a realization about a common aspect of many people's lives, including my own. Before, as a high school student and younger, family was just something that was always around, always a guaranteed aspect of life. Often it was just something that I didn't appreciate or pause to respect and enjoy; just another thing that could get on my nerves or stress me out. As I move on towards another stage in life, I realize my mistake. Family time is scarce relative to life-span, and one should appreciate the time he/she is able to spend with family members. Point in case, regardless of the condition of the relationship with mother, father, etc. make sure to spend time with and enjoy the time you are able to spend with them. If the relationship is fractured or fragile, try to repair it, it is definitely worth it in the long run.... because one day, it might be too late.

General Rule of Thought

Don't light a fire if you like the snow. Just a general thought about the way you interact with others. Snow represents the calm and serenity of peace prior to confrontation. Fire is obviously the confrontation or conflicting actions you take that melt the snow. Don't light the fire if you like the snow.

Food for Thought 2

Feed your soul like you feed your body. You wouldn't eat all your fruits and vegetables for the month in one sitting, and you wouldn't skip out on your fruits and vegetables for the entire month; otherwise you would be unhealthy and have physical issues due to lack of necessary nutrients and vitamins from those foods. The same applies with your soul and overall content in life. Binging for one day on prayer or faith or belief along with skipping out on it entirely is not healthy for the soul and could cause multiple problems in life. So feed your body and soul moderately but consistently to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Food for Thought

If Democrats are considered "the poor man's party" and Republicans "the rich man's party", why would Democrats try to make the poor richer? According to logic that would only lose votes for the party since the poor are now rich and voting for Republicans. Just food for thought.

Pondering

Is the flying squirrel foolish for making a leap to a branch with unknown strength? Or is it merely logical for believing in its own intuition and gut feeling of the unknown? Should we act as the flying squirrel in certain aspects of life and take that leap of faith?
